New Era in Tourist Industry

An improvement in Tourist Industry is anticipated with the end of the war.  Currently the whole world knows about Sri Lanka. The whole world speaks of our remarkable victory.

It is necessary to make Sri Lanka the most popular tourist destination in South Asia facilitating to enjoy the sun rays, sea and beach resources. It is also important to display the ancient heritage of Sri Lanka.

Tourist Industry is a rapidly growing industry in Sri Lanka.  It is a challenge to us.  We Sri Lankans are a hospitable and caring nation. Roads, Electricity, Waste Disposal, Communication and other infrastructure are being rapidly developed which would help uplift the Tourist Industry.  

Sri Lanka has embarked on targeted programmes to attract tourists.  These programmes are being implements on short term and long term basis.

Kalpitiya Tourist Zone

Kalpitiya and the surrounding areas are being developed at a cost of investments involving over Rs. 15,000 Million. It is envisaged to construct 3000 tourist hotel rooms, a tourist Yacht marina, International Water Sports Centre, Beach paradise, Underwater playground under this scheme.

Development of Tourist Resources

Rs. 2917 billion will be invested in this regard for attracting affluent tourists.  Work in this regard has been completed on upgrading and renovating rooms in tourist hotels, provision of necessary equipment for Colombo hotels, Kandy Special Project, Beutification of Negombo Town, Renovation of Hamilton Fall, construction of tourist routes to Sigiriya while protecting the ancient glory of Sigiriya site.  Work is also under in the renovation of Gregary Fall in Nuwara Eliya, and the ancient Anuradhapura special project. Further construction of Rest Halls for inland tourists, enhancement of the Pasikuda facilities, and development of Kuchchiveli tourist resorts.  The Exhibition and Conference Hall in Hambantota is under construction.  Thousands of Youth have been provided training in Hotel Management.
