Lankan dancers thrill Palestinians at Tourism Road Show

Sri Lankan dancers thrilled the Palestinians when they performed at Grand Park Hotel in Ramallah on April 22 participating in a Sri Lanka Tourism Road Show organized by Sri Lanka Diplomatic Representative Office in Palestine in collaboration with Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.

A large number of travel agents from all parts of Palestine, hotel owners, media and special guests were present.

The Show commenced with the arrival of the chief Guest Tourism and Antiquities Minister Dr. Khaloud Dibes and Guest of Honour Minister of Culture and Arts Seham Bargouthi.

The welcome address was delivered by Diplomatic Representative for Sri Lanka in Palestine Dr. T. Jayasinghe. He spoke about the close relationship between Sri Lanka and Palestine and the role played by President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the head of the Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine from 1976.

He also stressed the need to have more interaction of this nature.

He specially thanked two Palestinians Ms. Nuha Anastas and Mr. Michele Kreitem for organizing the first group of 40 tourists to Sri Lanka in February 2008. Thanks to them now there is a steady flow of Palestinian tourists to Sri Lanka.

President of the Palestinian Society for Tourism and Travel Agents Hani Lama thanked Dr. Jayasinghe and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau for organizing the Road Show at a time when there is a great demand from the Palestinians to visit Sri Lanka.

Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Dr. (Mrs) Khloud Diabes making her address stated that the Road Show conducted in a grand manner is a unique event in Palestine.

The scintillating dances performed for the first time in Palestine mesmerized the gathering and became a great attraction.
